I know it's been four years, but it's just amazing. That shot was just the Canon 1100D with a Canon 50mm f1.8 and a tripod. No filters, but very nice clear sky. I live in an area where there is so much light pollution coming from malls and residential houses and roads. I adjusted the image's contrast up (reduce noise) and the brightness a little up. That's it. ^_^ Thanks for showing my work here. ^_^Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02900437393186358418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654394217792725702.post-48348135893731647332015-02-10T02:02:56.509-08:002015-02-10T02:02:56.509-08:00Not sure if my reply to this kind comment came out...Not sure if my reply to this kind comment came out as a reply of just another comment Robert. After having been out of commission for over a year do to constant electro-mechanical issues with my CGE mount I finally constructed one of Gary Bennett's upgrade kits (DIY version of http://www.bendun.net/CGE-UPGRADE-KITS.html for those with issues). After getting everything back together I went looking for this drift align tutorial, as I'd used it before with very good results. Needless to say, I was quite disheartened to find it offline. As you mentioned above, it is truly an amazing piece of work that does a wonderful job explaining and simplifying the process. You're doing a great service by keeping it alive, and your revised comments help smooth out some of the areas where one might be spending too much time on details that won't really matter that much.

Thank you again for your good work.

Robert

Northern Virginia, USAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654394217792725702.post-2252377460398578072015-01-03T21:15:01.676-08:002015-01-03T21:15:01.676-08:00Amazing! It will be interesting to compare my Canon SX50 against the new Nikon D3200 that I ordered. Obviously the Canon zoom helps tremendously, but I reckon the Nikon with its 24MP might have a say in the matter. Polarising filters cut out reflected light, and whilst it's true that they can darken the sky, I suspect that this would only be effective during the daylight hours.

Best thing to do is test it - take a sub with no filter and then another immediately after with the filter attached. I'd be surprised if there is any difference - let me know if there is :)

Best

Doug Doug Germanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02683066182341140259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6654394217792725702.post-7996614574283946602013-05-28T19:03:02.011-07:002013-05-28T19:03:02.011-07:00Hey Doug, I am just getting into the world of Astr...Hey Doug, I am just getting into the world of Astrophotography and am really having a blast with it.

I have a question I can't seem to find any answers for on google: I don't want to spend money on new filters to control light pollution, but I have a circular polarizer.
